Senior Year Checklist

FAFSA Day at VHS

VHS will host a FAFSA (free application for federal student aid) day on January 17th, 2017 from 9-3. Parents will need to call Ms. Tello in guidance to schedule an appointment. Representatives from Get2college will help parents and students fill out the fafsa for students planning to start college in August 2017. The number in guidance is 601-631-2800. Parents will need to bring the following information: a copy of their student's and their federal tax return for 2015, a copy of their student's and their driver's license, and a copy of their and their student's W-2 forms for 2015. The information you reported on your FAFSA, is used to calculate expected family contribution (EFC). Your EFC is used to determine your eligibility for federal student aid and may be used for institutional need-based aid or state financial aid. Bottom line is if you need financial aid for college, you need to fill out a FAFSA. We are here to help! Call today and set up your appointment.

November 10th, 2016

Seniors, do you need community service hours? Volunteers are needed from 6:30-10 on November 19th for a race downtown called the Turkey Trot. You would cheer the runners on and pass out water. You do not have to be a senior to volunteer. If you are interested, let Ms. Tello in guidance know by this Friday, November 11th.

State testing will begin when we come back from Thanksgiving break:

Tuesday and Wednesday, November 29th and 30th-US History

Thursday and Friday, December 1st and 2nd - Biology

Monday-Wednesday, December 5th-7th- Questar English and Algebra (part 1)

Thursday and Friday, December 8th and 9th- make up days for US History and Biology

Monday-Wednesday, December 12-14th, Questar English writing and Algebra (part 2)

Counselors will be available during lunch with letters letting you know if you need to retest. There is remediation help online through USA test prep. Go under MAP when you log in to your account, and click on SATP for US History and Biology, and plain English 2 and Algebra if you are testing in those areas.

The next ACT will be given on December 10th, but the deadline has passed to sign up. The ACT after that is on February 11th, and the deadline is January 13th. The ACT is important for many reasons, a 17 in an area can substitute for the state test, you'll need it to apply for entrance to college, and also to qualify for some dual credit classes. There is test prep for ACT on USA Test Prep.

Seniors make sure you monitor our website, vhsgators.org, under student corner for scholarships. The Junior Auxiliary was recently added and others will be added as they come in.
