The VHS Madrigals and Varsity Choir recently participated in the District Choral Competition in Pearl.  Both choirs earned superior ratings.  The choral students who participated were:  Zak Abdeen, Cerenity Acreman, Thomas Barnes, Marcus Barnett, Phillip Beck, Carmen Braxton, Brittany Brewer, Charlatte Brown, Warner Buxton, Kierra Cage, Roderick Crowell, Breazlynn Dillon, Arcaisha Drayton, Madison Dubois, Treliono Edley, Kayla English, Ashley Erves, JaDarius Flagg, Kayla Foster, Alston Harris, Eddie Howard, Jordan Howard, Kenzie Irons, Michael James, Brittney Jenkins, Alexiya Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Timelia Jones, Zion Jones, Noah Ledbetter, Kaitlyn Luke, Mackenzie Lynch, Makala McKay, Zaria Neal, Yolanda Parson, Laura Rivera, Destinee Shaifer, Tevin Sylvester, Destinie Taper, Vidal Thuha, Faye Valerio, Jamison Watson, Kionna Wilkerson, Brettanie Williams, Diamond Woods, and Antavia Wright.  Mrs. Tracey Smithey is the directress, and Mrs. Angela Chapin is the assistant.  Congratulations and thanks to the staff and students for their accomplishment and representation.

Registration for 10th grade (upcoming Juniors) continues this week through March 4.

Get2College will be on campus on Thursday, March 3 from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. to host FAFSA Day.  If you are interested in attending, please make an appointment with Mrs. Anderson in room 203.  Spaces are limited.

Attention any current or former students of the Family and Consumer Science class interested in attending an out-of-state field trip during Spring Break to the Mercedes Benz plant and the University of Alabama on March 8, please see Ms. Rankin during third lunch in the cafeteria.

Spring Break is March 7 – March 11.  Classes will resume on March 14.

Scholarships have been updated on the school website.  Students may go under “Student’s Corner” for a list of available scholarships and qualifications for each.  Also check on the Get2College link for additional scholarships.   Please note and adhere to the deadlines for these scholarships.

Congratulations to Mrs. Ebony Gardner, VHS math instructor, for being named first runner-up secondary educator of the year by the Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce.  The VHS Family is so very proud of you!!!

Registration for 11th grade (upcoming Seniors) will begin on February 24.

Soccer banquet tickets are available in Office A.  Please see Ms. Rolling.

There will be a trip to Hinds Community College in Raymond on Friday, February 26 for Junior and Senior Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta members.  Students interested in attending should see Dr. O’Leary or Mrs. Gardner for permission slips and details.

To help raise funds for Relay for Life, VHS Student Council will be sponsoring a Lip Sync Battle on Thursday, March 3.  Students and teachers may compete as individuals or as a team for a chance to be the Lip Sync Champions!  If you’re interested in participating, please see Mrs. Gardner in room 14 to sign up.  The deadline to sign up will be Friday, February 26.  All music must be approved by Mrs. Gardner.  The cost to attend the Lip Sync Battle is $3.  Tickets will be sold during lunch.

Friday, February 26, is the deadline for ordering senior portraits and/or baby ads; ordering reserved copies of the yearbook; and submitting pictures, information, and other items for inclusion in the yearbook.  The Yearbook table will be set up outside of Office B during lunch.

Hinds Community College is offering a Foundation Scholarship.  The deadline is March 1.  Also, Hinds is now offering a full scholarship for those interested in a career in sports medicine.  If interested in either one of these scholarships, please see Mrs. Anderson in room 203 for more details.

The 2016 VHS Mu Alpha Theta National Math Honor Society inductees are:  Edward Auttonberry, Paul Auttonberry, Mikayla Banks, Allona Blue, Brittany Brewer, Yashica Brown, T’Amber Butler, Warner Buxton, Infanee Claiborne, Mekahel Dotson, Madeleine Gual, Leola Jones, Bethany Martin, Jadyn Stone, Dynasty Sylvester, and Jamison Watson.  The faculty and staff of VHS, parents, and friends congratulate all of these students for this great accomplishment.

Senior Night for Basketball will be on February 12 in the gym. 

There will be no school February 12 - February 15.  Students return to classes on February 16.

As a part of the Black History Month celebration, Vicksburg High is sponsoring a poster contest.  The theme for the contest is “Hallowed Ground:  A Journey of Faith”.  Students may see their History or English teachers for details.  Projects are due on February 16.

“Meet the Gators” will be February 18 at the VHS Softball Swamp.

Annual Black History program will be February 19 beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the VHS auditorium.

Relay for Life (2016) will be held at Vicksburg High School.  The theme for this year is “Paint Your Town Purple.”  The Relay for Life committee would like for one of our own students to design the T-shirt for this year.  Students are asked to submit T-shit designs to Mrs. McRight.
